Regions
The sunlit valleys of the Caucasus: where wine is born in Azerbaijan.
Valleys and foothills
Azerbaijan's vineyards stretch over thousands of square kilometres — by vine area the country is among the top ten in the world. Wine is born in several key regions, from the foothills of the Greater Caucasus to the valleys of the Kura. Each has its own climate, its own soil and its own grapes.
The main regions
Shamakhi
The foothills of the Greater Caucasus and the village of Madrasa, which gave its name to the famous pink grape.
Goygol
Former Helenendorf: here German colonists founded one of the oldest wine plants in the land.
Ganja-Gazakh
A vast winemaking zone in the west of the country with long-standing traditions of viticulture.
Ismayilli
Cool mountain slopes and the village of Ivanovka — one of the centres of modern winemaking.
Gabala
Scenic foothills where the modern Savalan (ASPI) winery works with its own vineyards.
Tovuz and Nakhchivan
Western and southern districts with ancient traces of viticulture uncovered by archaeologists.

Shamakhi
The foothills of the Greater Caucasus and the village of Madrasa, which gave its name to the famous pink grape.
The boundaries of the wine regions are loose: the vine is grown in many districts of Azerbaijan, and wineries are constantly taking in new valleys.
